Hurry Up!

A quirk I am (re)discovering and that is fast gaining a fancy is this need to have 'chatpatta' sweet-sour-tangy-spicy-crunchy small nuggets, other wise known as ... well.. dont think there is any one name for it.. but they can be called churan ki goli or some brand name called 'Fatafat' (which incidentally has won the gold medal from the Trans World Trade Fare - Selection Awards).

Yesterday while waiting for a table at Swagat, I picked up a packet of them and was popping them in twos, impatiently waiting for him to holler my number. As I walked past him, he actually reprimanded me, Yeh kahyenge tho khana kaise khayenge..?" Sweet no?Thats service and customer care fer ya. On a totally unrelated note, do try the food there and stick to Mangalorean cuisine. Finger lickin good!!

Coming back to these ..ahem..sweets there are dime-a-dozen vendors and I cant seem to have enough of them. I buy smaller and smaller quantities lest my tummy actually takes these little pills seriously. Touch wood as yet, none have really lived up to its 'ayurvedic digestive' qualities.

Sometimes these little nuggets contain some crunchy centres some dont, some melt, some have to be crunched even chomped on. Some are sour and some are absoultely 'umbat'(thats indescribably sour in Marathi..)

I try to space them out over meals or over a few days but any small sweet like thing, which has a mouth-popping quality is vamooshed over the next day or hour, depending on my whim, and its ability to scrouge my tongue.

Most packets by the end leave me with leftover sugar granules and some really tasty memories and pushing to look for the last vendor who hopefully has not moved from that 'nukkad'.
