Jams and Syrups

Sometimes chains of stores are a good thing. In a new place, they present a certain familiarity that can help tide over some awkward moments and such spots were what I was hoping to help move me from New-from-Mumbai to Been-here-Eons.

One such hallowed haunt was Fabindia – a clothing, furnishings and furniture store. Coming to Delhi, I always am amazed at the sheer size of these stores and sometimes the price too but what I did not expect is a whole line of food items under a new line called Fabindia Organics.

And what a range!! I sure hope Mumbai has them. Squat bottles of preserve of lemon, kumquat, kiwi and gooseberry; different marmalades like grapefruit, apricot , blackgrape including chunky versions of orange marmalade.

Then came the clincher in the fruits-syrups-jam sections. I saw long bottles of lemon and rhododendron syrup!! Wow… rhododendrons would always mean to me those lovely flower laden bushes high up in Sikkim in various colours. Now it means something I could pour in a glass, add a dash of vodka and loads of ice!!

It also included some delicious sounding honey flavours like Rudaprayag, multiflower, lemon and Egyptian Clover. Dried herbs featuring regular hers like rosemary, thyme, basil along with caraway and other exotic names I was just too excited to read.

They have peanut butter (chunky here too) and cashew butter; different nutrition laden flours like soya bean, black soya bean, gram, methi (fenugreek), amaranth and garlic chives. Even whole wheat pasta was stocked.

I have no clue why I got so excited seeing this new range of healthy products. Mostly because of the exotic ingredients. Do check them out. I noticed them in the Khan Market outlet as well as the GK I outlet and missed the Fabindia café in GK I am told. But hey need another excuse to go back right?

If I have left some major product from the line it is only because I was making furtive notes standing next to these shelves, without having to rouse any suspicion.
