Canteen woes
The company I work with is located in a relatively obscure (but self sufficient) corner of Mumbai and while joining it the very last thought on my mind (despite self professed love for food) was the kind of canteen arrangements in this new place.
You see, my old office, did not have even a token presence of one and since I have a diligent mum, lunch was never an issue. It was always the extra snacks that one has not to have but needs..
Now at this new place it was the same story. So no surprises there. But about 2 months after me joining there (am the lucky mascot I think) a canteen was opened.
Siddhi Caterers, opened in the basement of the building. Done in bubble gum colours of green, fuschia and purple, with plastic chairs, self service counters and a huge menu written in pen on one of the walls.
We all were thrilled to bits. Here come hot, piping dosas and idlis, mean grilled sandwiches, fresh fruit juices and full meals (ok so they weren't gourmet!). We were on a roll. Now coming to office meant a hot breakfast (the most important meal right?) , lunch from home and the omnipresent sweet for the day by the side (Unless I try how will I know how good their food is?) and evening snacks (Oh today there is Chinese Bhel!).
Of course I knew it was too good to last and soon the food started to taste the same - any curry, any dal and most sweets. We eventually gave up and now order food only when are mouths are most hungry (at 4.30 pm unfailingly everyday).
Today I came across this (as of now registration required) from A Full Belly and realised how we are being had!! I want that gourmet, subsidised canteen!
